ATBF 2009 Annual Appeal

Fall/Winter 2009

Dear Friends,

The Alan T Brown Foundation to Cure Paralysis (ATBF) was established 21 years ago after Alan became paralyzed in a water accident. Today it is a vibrant force for hope and progress in the spinal community. Here is a brief overview of the Foundation's accomplishments:

ATBF's Outreach and Peer Mentoring Program:

  • ATBF provides information 24/7 to regain mobility (dependent on the level of injury) and help bridge the gap between dependence and independence.
  • Individuals with similar injuries and backgrounds bond with the newly-injured and provide physical and psychological help. Knowledge is coupled with compassion and the possibilities and realities are addressed.
  • Topics include: rehabilitation facilities, accessibility issues (work and home), education, fertility, driving, health care providers… an endless list.
  • These contacts are instrumental in assisting the paralyzed cross barriers and realize there is life after a spinal cord injury.

Research and Quality of Life:

  • Major research centers and scientists are funded world-wide by the Foundation.
  • Requests for funding by scientists are reviewed by ATBF's Medical Advisory Board.
  • The Foundation's Medical Advisory Board responds immediately when a trauma occurs--- and is "hands-on" post-injury.
  • ATBF receives grants from institutions and organizations for its Outreach Initiatives and Quality of Life Program. Quality of Life for long-term injuries is now core to the Foundation's Mission.

Your year-end gift to The Alan T Brown Foundation will ensure the continuity of the Foundation's important work that has impacted so many lives for the past 21 years. We hope that you, your family and friends will never have to contact us, however, if there is that one moment in time when life changes forever, your support guarantees The Alan T Brown Foundation will be there.

Thank you.

Fran Brown
Executive Director
