March 2005

RAMAZ MIDDLE SCHOOL HOCKEY
DEDICATED TO A CAUSE

On March 7, 2005 the Ramaz Middle School Hockey Team (grades 6-8) in collaboration with The Kushner Jaguars played in an inter-squad hockey game to raise awareness and funds for The Alan T Brown Foundation (ATBF).

The evening began with the Ramaz Rams, coached by Jamie Lassner, and the Kushner Jaquars, coached by David Gross playing in one of the most competitive games of the season. With the score tied the majority of the time, Ramaz pulled their goalie in the last few seconds of the game. This risky move led to a victorious triumph for Ramaz.

Dave Sims, a two-time Emmy Award winning sportscaster conducted the second part of the evening. Dave emphasized the value of an athlete behaving properly on and off the court and in sporting arenas. A question and answer period included a discussion of different sports, records set and favorite sports figures past and present. Dave stressed the significance of dedication, commitment and passion in sports. He also noted the fragility of the human body and how one must be careful when participating individually and in team sports.

Both schools sold raffle tickets raising almost $4,000, and Dave had the privilege of picking the winning raffle ticket. Amit Peretz won the grand prize and was thrilled to receive a basketball signed by thirteen famous NBA players.

It was an exciting and important evening as players and spectators realized that their support would enable ATBF to continue to make a difference in the lives of the spinally injured. It is hoped this game will become a tradition at Ramaz.
